WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Alberto - Making An Impact Posted on 1 Feb 16:09 , 0 comments

Hi, my name is Alberto, this is my story. When I was 11 years old, my two siblings and I arrived at an orphanage due to domestic abuse. While living at Puerta de Fe, I met Corazon de Vida. They would come to us with groups of people who wanted nothing more than to spend time with us. I got to talk to them about the dreams I had of one day getting ahead in life. That made a big impact on me, I felt that someone cared about my future.

I remember my time in the orphanage with great affection because I learned many things that have been very useful to me to this day. I spent my days helping and playing with the little ones, I was always fond of them. I really enjoyed assisting them with their homework and advising them on topics they didn't understand. I liked motivating them to continue studying. That is what inspired me to decide on a career in education. So, I studied for a Bachelor of Science in Education and I am currently studying for a Master's Degree in Education. Corazon de Vida was always there for me during my college years. I had some setbacks but they never doubted me and continued to support me.

Now, I am an honest person with values, who likes to support others. I have a wife and a daughter that I love with all my heart. Without CDV’s help, I probably wouldn't be where I am right now. I work at CUT University, Ensenada Campus as a coordinator, and a writing and reading teacher.

To all the donors, thank you very much! It really is a blessing to know there are people helping children who have been suffering since they were very young. Thanks to your donations, you can fulfill the dream of a child who perhaps thinks they have no more opportunities. It is with your help that you uplift that child and allow them to become a good person, breaking a cycle that is sadly repeated in some cases without such help.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Fernando - Building A Brighter Future Posted on 30 Sep 10:18 , 0 comments

My name is Fernando Ibarra, I am 29 years old, I am a civil engineer. This is my story. I first arrived at an orphanage as a newborn and a few months later my mother picked me up. Eventually, my mom was unable to care for my needs, so I ended up at an orphanage again at three years old. I remained there throughout my childhood and adolescence.

I remember the small dorm rooms at my orphanage would sleep two or three on one bed when it was at its peak capacity of 120 kids. It was then that Corazon de Vida came along and began a project to build a new boys dorm for us. Since the project became expensive, the orphanage directors asked us older boys to help out with the construction labor. It sparked an interest in me, so, I continued to get involved in every construction project at the orphanage. This is exactly how I came to choose Civil Engineering as my area of study.

The support of Corazon de Vida means pretty much everything to me. If I could describe the foundation in one word, it would be FAMILY. They have watched me grow from the time I was eight or nine years old. I would sincerely like to thank the people who donate. The truth is, you contribute so much. Thanks to you, I have a university degree in Civil Engineering! With my work, I am able to support myself and my mother too. I am doing well, I feel happy and fulfilled. You should know, your help changed my life and I know it will do the same for others.

Corazon de Vida: We are so proud of Fernando’s accomplishments! He is currently employed at an engineering firm in Tijuana, working on several build-projects in Valle de Guadalupe and managing a crew of 20+ construction workers! If you ever wonder whether your donations make a difference, think of the life-changing difference it made in Fernando’s life!

CORAZON DE VIDA :: GIVE LOVE ON YOUR BIRTHDAY WITH FACEBOOK FUNDRASING Posted on 14 Mar 16:26 , 0 comments

Birthdays are much more than gifts. They are all about the overwhelming feeling of love you can receive.

And there is a new and effective way to share that love on your special day! The social media platform that you use to keep in touch with relatives, old high school classmates and watch funny videos can also be used for something far greater. Social media users are utilizing the power of Facebook as a means to engage friends and family to participate in birthday fundraisers in support of their favorite causes.

Our mantra has always been GIVE LOVE. And in a simple and effective way YOU can do it too.

FACEBOOK has become a powerful tool to raise funds and it’s simple yet so impactful to so many lives. Orphaned and abandoned children in Baja live thinking that perhaps they aren’t worthy of love. You can show them differently.

It’s easy! Just follow these six simple steps:

1) Go to your Facebook account

2) Go to your 'home' page, and look on the left side column. You should see the 'fundraiser' option under "Create" at the bottom. Select on "fundraiser" and Facebook will guide you through.

3) Select Corazon de Vida Foundation as the non-profit you would like to support.

4) Set your time frame and your fundraising goal. Remember no set dollar amount is too small to make a change in our children’s lives!

5) Invite your Facebook friends and family to participate in your birthday fundraiser! Inviting others is truly essential to reach your goal. And don’t blame yourself if someone is unable or unwilling to contribute, you are creating awareness of the need and that also counts! Continue sharing for all your friends to see, as others may have missed the opportunity to help you reach your goal!

6) Thank those who contribute to your fundraiser and have fun!

Corazon de Vida appreciates and thanks you for giving back the gift of love on your birthday. You are truly extraordinary.

You may not change the world, but you can change the world of one child in need.

CORAZON DE VIDA :: HELP ME ESCAPE POVERTY AND I WILL BUILD A FUTURE FOR MYSELF Posted on 22 Jun 09:41 , 0 comments

Supporting continuing education for teens aging out of the orphanage system is an important program for CDV, as it provides them with the opportunity to create a better future for themselves, their families and their community.

There are currently over 50 students enrolled in either trade school or college who are in the Corazon de Vida Continuing Education program.  These students are receiving assistance for tuition, housing, transportation, and living expenses. CDV provides further assistance to students through English courses to supplement their education, and to increase their chances of success in the professional world.

Each student has had their own unique struggles, conquering various obstacles through their own willpower and determination. These are just a few stories from the first wave of graduates supported by CDV’s Continuing Education program.

Isaac came to a Corazon de Vida supported orphanage with his 3 siblings when he was 9-years old. Noted as a handsome and kind-mannered young man, Isaac is graduating from the accounting and finance program at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), Baja’s public university. He pursued accounting/finance because of the job opportunities that would be available to him. He says that his degree will allow him to help his family and others so that he might make a difference in his community. Isaac has worked as a barber on the weekends throughout his schooling to help earn funds for his expenses.

Isaac recently completed an internship with and has the opportunity to work for the prestigious firm Deloitte, a firm that provides industry-leading audit, consulting, tax, and advisory services to many of the world's most admired brands, including 80% of the companies on the Fortune 500!

Cecilia was abandoned by her parents in her early teens, after years of abuse and neglect. With nowhere to go, she admitted herself into an orphanage for her own safety, and ultimately to get an education. After high school, Ceci entered the UABC Ensenada campus, working hard to obtain her degree while working just as hard to support herself. Ceci just recently obtained her degree in psychology, and hopes to assist others in the same way that she was supported.

"When I was at the orphanage, there was a need for us to talk about our lives, to get help, but no one was listening. I decided to get a psychology degree to one day return, listen, and help children living in orphanages. I was one of them. I know what they are going through".

Ceci received her U.S. Visa with the help of Corazon de Vida and frequently attends our events as a perfect example of what can be done with a helping hand.

Karla and her younger sister were taken from their home and placed at a CDV supported orphanage where they lived for 8 years. Karla, understanding the value of education in her own life, has just completed the Marketing program at UABC Tijuana.

Her dream is to become a business owner, having the means to support her family while also being able to give back to her community. A deep thinker, Karla specializes in virtues such as Listening, Perseverance, and Patience.

Jaqueline grew up in an orphanage in Maneadero.  Jaqueline entered our program after she had already completed her first two years of UABC nursing school through the support of a local family that was not able to continue their support.  Jaque’s grades were exceptional and she is a very dedicated student.  With CDV’s financial and moral support, she has been able to graduate with a degree in nursing and will soon start her one-year of service.  At her graduation, Jaque presented her Corazon de Vida family with a beautiful plaque with a touching inscription:

“For all the help you have provided during my academic formation.  Because in the most difficult moments, you encouraged me to continue, and you believed in me.  My success and my love are yours.”

It is only through the help of our community of loving and generous individuals that these stories are possible. Together we are changing the odds for hundreds of children like Isaac, Jaque, Karla, and Cecilia. With hundreds of children still relying on our life-sustaining support, donations are essential to ensuring not only their survival, but also their future success as productive members of their community.

Thank you for all that you do! Let us continue to do even more for the orphaned children of Baja. Please click on this link to support our Continuing Education program: http://tinyurl.com/cdveducation

CORAZON DE VIDA:: HEART OF LIFE Posted on 4 May 17:35 , 0 comments

Welcome to our new website and our beautiful re-branding transformation!

We are all part of an 'extended' family for our kids at the orphanages and for each other.  Our love for the children binds us together in thought and action and it is amazing to see how our community of supporters is viewed by others observing what we do. The process of changing the logo was sometimes hard. After more than 20 years using our previous logo, there was a very strong emotional connection to it, however, when Artist Ali Sabet presented us with his interpretation of what Corazon de Vida represents in the form of a logo, we fell in love with it!  Here is what Ali had to say about his inspiration for the design:

"Inspired by love and authentic compassion, the lines and heart were manifested to convey trust, passion, relevance and community. They were created with a brush, ink and paper to allow the children to see themselves in the identity. Because if it represents them it should be a reflection of them. I wanted to make sure that every child that is under the wings of Corazon De Vida could draw our symbol of love.”

The logo theme is “Child Within”. It is a hand-drawn open circles and heart, using the green and red as main colors (like in our previous logo) but softened a bit. The simplicity of the design is beautiful, clean and represents children; heart, love, growth, openness; excitement, wholeness and family.
