Where Are They Now? Obed - A Giving Heart Posted on 22 Nov 13:10 , 0 comments
Hello, my name is Obed, this is my story. I arrived at an orphanage at approximately four years old because my parents volunteered to look after the home. At some point, my parents became the orphanage directors. I lived in the orphanage from my childhood until around age 18. The best part of living in the home was having many “siblings.” At one time, up to 80 kids were living there. Growing up I learned many things, my main task for a while was to take care of the cows and milk them so we could make cheese for our consumption. We also grew different vegetables to exchange or sell outside the home.
I want to emphasize that growing up at the orphanage was one of the best things that happened to me. I learned a lot from each person I met: children, staff, and people who support the orphanage. Without a doubt, being the son of the orphanage directors, I realize many things, like when there was a shortage of money to cover expenses like electricity or supplies for school. That is where Corazon de Vida was undoubtedly counted on. I remember greeting George and Hilda with hugs and knowing well of their support for the orphanage. I remember they invited groups to visit and explained the needs of the home. I always admired how kind and responsible CDV was when asking, "What do the children need?”
"Your support is greater than you can imagine, thank you!"
Orphanage directors do not get paid much, so Corazon de Vida offered to support my higher education. I studied Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering-Architecture-Design. I chose this career because I really like engineering, and I was inspired to facilitate the lack of medical devices in orphanages. I completed my studies and even obtained certification in Tourism, which helped me out financially as a university student and as a recent graduate. Currently, I am working as a Software Quality Control Engineer, and I definitely love this job! I am happily married and have a family of my own.
I want to thank every one of the donors who have supported CDV. I want you to know that your support has been very important. Although the children and students do not know your faces, it is because of you that this is possible. If you have the opportunity to visit an orphanage, do not hesitate. Your support is greater than you can imagine, thank you!
